Kroos, 33, will hang up his boots after the 2024 European Championship

Toni Kroos has announced he will retire from professional football at the end of the season. The Real Madrid and Germany midfielder made the announcement on Saturday after playing his last game at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Kroos, 33, has enjoyed a trophy-laden career, winning five Champions League titles with Real Madrid and the 2014 World Cup with Germany. He has also won the Bundesliga, La Liga, and Copa del Rey.

Kroos's teammates and Real Madrid fans paid tribute to the midfielder on Saturday, with many fans shedding tears as he left the field. Kroos said he had made the decision to retire after "a lot of thought."

"It was not an easy decision," Kroos said. "But I think it is the right time for me to retire. I have had a great career, and I am very grateful for everything I have achieved."

Kroos will continue to play for Real Madrid until the end of the season. He will then retire from professional football after the 2024 European Championship.
